Paddle boarding on Treasure Island

Treasure Island sits between the Gulf of Mexico and Boca Ciega Bay, which gives you two very different places to paddle. On calm mornings the Gulf is flat, clear, and green-blue, and dolphins often feed just past the sandbar. When the wind picks up, the bay side is more sheltered, with mangrove shorelines, wading birds, and in warmer months the chance of a slow-moving manatee.

Our boards are wide and stable, so first-timers are usually standing within a few minutes. Every rental starts with a short briefing on how to stand, turn, and fall safely, and what the water is doing that day.

Which rental length is right?

  • 2 hours ($35): enough for a sunrise paddle or a first try.
  • 4 hours ($50): time to explore, swim, and rest on the board.
  • Full day ($65): keep the board from open to close and paddle whenever the water is best.

Paddle safely

Wear your life jacket, keep your leash on, and stay clear of boat channels, including John's Pass and Blind Pass, where currents run strong. If thunder sounds or the wind turns offshore, head in. We check the marine forecast every morning and will tell you if conditions are not safe.

FAQ

Paddle boards: common questions

Do I need experience to rent a paddle board?

No. Our boards are wide, stable all-around boards built for first-timers, and every rental starts with a quick on-land safety and technique briefing.

Where is the best place to paddle in Treasure Island?

On calm mornings the Gulf side is glassy and great for spotting dolphins. When there is wind or chop, the back-bay waters of Boca Ciega Bay are more sheltered. We will tell you which side is best that day.

What is included with a paddle board rental?

Board, adjustable paddle, ankle leash, and a U.S. Coast Guard–approved life jacket for every rider. A sound-signaling whistle is included, as Florida rules require.

Can kids paddle board?

Yes. Kids can ride with an adult on the same board, and riders under 18 need a parent or guardian to sign the waiver. Children under 6 must wear their life jacket at all times on the water.

Is there an age limit to rent?

The person renting must be 18 or older with a photo ID.
